Call to Worship — Psalm 118:19-29

Leader: Open for me the gates of the righteous; I will enter and give thanks to the Lord.
People: This is the gate of the Lord through which the righteous may enter.
Leader: I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation.
People: The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.
Leader: The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.
People: Lord, save us! Lord, grant us success! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Leader: From the house of the Lord we bless you. The Lord is God, and he has made his light shine on us. With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession up to the horns of the altar.
People: You are my God, and I will praise you; you are my God, and I will exalt you.
Leader: Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Prayer of Confession: from Psalm 51

Have mercy on us, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out our transgressions. Wash away all our iniquity and cleanse us from our sin. For surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach us wisdom in the inmost place. Create in us pure hearts, O God, and renew steadfast spirits within us. Do not cast us from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from us. Restore to us the joy of your salvation and grant us a willing spirit, to sustain us. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Hear the good news: Christ our Savior has come! While we were sinners, Jesus was born. Jesus died. Jesus rose in victory. And in him we are forgiven. Thanks be to God! Amen.

Leader: May the peace of Christ be with you.
People: And also with you.

Scripture Reading

Mark 11:1-11

Leader: This is the Word of the Lord.
People: Thanks be to God.

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen.

Affirmation of Faith – from The Confession of 1967

In Jesus Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself. Jesus Christ is God with humankind. He is the eternal Son of the Father, who became man and lived among us to fulfill the work of reconciliation. He is present in the church by the power of the Holy Spirit to continue and complete his mission. This work of God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is the foundation of all confessional statements about God, humanity, and the world. Therefore the church calls all people to be reconciled to God and to one another.

Prayers of the People

Benediction

May the peace of the risen Lord Christ go with you, wherever he may send you.
May he guide you through the wilderness, protect you through the storm.
May he bring you home rejoicing at the wonders he has shown you.
May he bring you home rejoicing once again into our doors.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
